Exhibition Announcement: Millie Chen’s Turbulence
We are excited to announce Turbulence, an evocative exhibition by Millie Chen, on view at the RiverBrink Art Museum. Turbulence explores the complex interplay between natural phenomena, history, social justice, and sorrow.
The exhibition title derives from a new series of drawings that capture the dynamic energy of river sites along the Onguiaahra (Haudenosaunee) or Niagara River. These works, rooted in years of daily crossings and contemplative walks along the river’s banks, delve into the turbulence created by disturbances beneath the water's surface—sites rich in historical and symbolic significance.
Chen’s use of grids serves as both a structural and theoretical framework throughout the exhibition. The grid becomes a tool for exploring the balance between order and chaos, regulation and unpredictability, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexity of existence. Through these intricate images, Chen taps into the grid’s potential to contain both control and spontaneity, embracing the imperfections and uncertainties that define the human experience.
Don't miss this thought-provoking exhibition, where art meets history, and the flow of time is captured in every stroke.
