Mriganka Madhukaillya: Filmscreening & Talk: ‘Cinema as Invocation’ and Lecture Performance: ‘Amphibious: Three Surrounds’
Hi friends!
Mriganka Madhukaillya is currently in Cologne and in residence at The Akademie der Künste der Welt (Academy of the Arts of the World, ADKDW) at the invitation of the director Ala Younis. He is preparing for two public events:
In the first event, Mriganka will present his film Invocation (2015) on Mon, May 6, 2024, from 6:30 to 9 pm. The film was commissioned by the British Museum to investigate the Vrindabani Vastra, an Assamese textile woven in the seventeenth century depicting illustrations of Lord Krishna’s childhood in over 9 meters of length. In conversation with the philosopher Stephen Zepke, Mriganka will discuss the ways in which the truths and dreams of indigenous ontologies can be invoked through contemporary cinema in order to reanimate and redirect our bodies and minds, drawing also on Zepke’s own work on the sublime in contemporary art and cinema. https://www.adkdw.org/en/article/4265_cinema_as_invocation
In the second event, in a lecture performance on Fri, May 17, 2024, from 7:30 to 10 pm, Mriganka Madhukaillya and Maan Barua aim to formulate a different optic and account of urban life compared to those on record in mainstream theory. From an ongoing discussion, they develop the concept of the amphibious – or life (bios) in its surrounds (amphi-) – to delineate the space-times and practices of urban habitation within and beyond capture. https://www.adkdw.org/en/article/4266_amphibious_three_surrounds
Feel free to join these thought-provoking events!
