Report on July 30, 2018 SMRN meeting

Another wonderful SMRN meeting is held on July 30 despite missing Wael El Allouche. Present were Steve Baris, Nina Czegledy (on a train in Italy), Siying Duan (on a cell phone), Azadeh Emadi, Jessika Kenney, Javad Khajavi, Mriganka Madhukaillya, Laura Marks, Kalpana Subramanian, and Yvan Tina.

Jessika Kenney presented her beautiful and deeply researched vocal performance and installation work that extends the first words of Nizami’s Layla and Majnun into a meditation. The vertical letter of the alif reaches to the heavens through voice in her work Anchor Zero,

SMRN’s new member Yvan Tina gave an introduction of Creative Disturbance, the international research network and well-supported podcast platform founded by Leonardo(, and invited SMRN to get involved. SMRN member Siying Duan hosts the podcast Elephant Says, on Chinese aesthetics and new media arts, and there are a number of other existing series that relate to the interests of SMRN members.
