About the Book:
Combining Lacanian psychoanalysis, Iranian Shi’ite thought, and Islamicate sexualities, Iranian Cinema with Psychoanalysis: The Interpreter of Desires offers a groundbreaking look at desire and sexuality in contemporary Iranian cinema. Farshid Kazemi demonstrates how censorship in post-revolutionary Iranian films has paradoxically produced a “cinema of desire,” revealing the hidden libidinal structures at play. This book is the first to explore the unconscious economy of desire in Iranian cinema through a psychoanalytic lens, offering fresh insights for film studies.

The launch will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Laura U. Marks and a Q&A session.
